Introduction

Designing a structure is a complex task. The success of the project depends upon the creative balance of your requirements with the ideas of your designer, and the balance of the site's opportunities with the social factors and environmental impact.

This pictorial series explains the procedure by which a home, or structure, is designed and built. Each page will detail the phases of the Design Process with a sketch box animating your role as the client, and how you can provide the most effective input. Upon reading through the following pages, you will be better informed, more involved and ultimately more satisfied.

The DESIGN PROCESS at Chip Webster & Associates is broken down into five basic phases: Preliminary Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, the Bidding Phase and the Construction Phase.
