Avalon Retreat
Established in 1994, Avalon is a community of thirty-five individuals and their extended family and friends. Set in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the property consists of hardwood forests, open fields and a sandy bottom creek that flows into Lake Hartwell . It is located on the South Carolina/Georgia border and is divided into private and community ownership; one third of the land is used for residential home sites and the remaining is common ground.
Community structures include a workshop and barn with a caretaker apartment, an open-air kitchen and gazebo, and a bathhouse. Future plans call for a lodge, recording studio, and observatory.
Chip Webster was responsible for the project concept, property acquisition and development work. Chip Webster & Associates executed the master planning and architectural design of the community structures as well as the private homes currently being built.
