Cohen Residence
Designed as a summer retreat, the Cohen Residence is approximately
3000 square feet. It is located within a small isolated neighborhood
of homes in the center of a conservation area, with distant water
views. The
home retains simple Nantucket charm and incorporates a number of
modern amenities and details. It is an upside down house, with four
bedrooms. The master suite and living space are both located on
the upper floor, while three bedrooms are on the lower level. The
house incorporates a number of decks and porches to allow for a
variety of indoor and outdoor spaces to relax.
The
design has additive massing, which incorporates a number of smaller
pieces to create a single cohesive composition. The effect is to
make a large home appear more cottage-like in character. Decks engaged
into the porch roofs allow the second floor outdoor spaces to blend
into the house. Large expanses of windows create a light and airy
feeling on the interior that satisfies the desired character of
an island retreat.
