Dance is more than just physical movement - it is an art form by which to communicate individual or social ideologies. History and traditions are preserved and presented through dance. It is a craft or process by which emotions and desires can be expressed with creative clarity using the human body as the instrument. It represents freedom, a way to celebrate life. These days some consider dance a competitive sport. There are countless types and forms of dance. Some may conform to a group or company, which requires discipline and practice; others may be a free form of self-exploration and expression. As with all forms of body movement regimes dance provides various health benefits.

dance from within
Instructor Maeve Hughes combines Modern Dance, Improv, Dance Therapy, and Continuum Movement. Dance to various types of music, increase strength from fluidity and enjoy the freedom to express and experience your body. All-levels welcome, no experience required.

classical ballet for ages 8-13
This 4-week summer children's classical ballet program focuses on strength, alignment, musicality and proper technique. Instructor, Myrrha Andersen provides a foundation on which safe and healthy movement is achieved. Girls should wear pink tights and ballet slippers and a black leotard and boys should wear black tights, ballet slippers and a white dance shirt. Pre-registration required.

basic swing rhythm
Learn the fundamentals of east coast swing including the basic 6-count step and proper posture. This class will prepare you for more advanced east coast swing, the jitterbug and the lindy hop.

salsa dance class
The hottest of the Latin American dances is fun and easy to learn in our perfect studio environment. Experience the rhythmic music and the instructor's light-hearted approach to teaching. Please bring leather sole shoes, street shoes can not be worn in the studio.


the tango - an introductory workshop
Learn the fundamental leading and following techniques of this beautiful dance in a non-competitive workshop environment. Come with a partner or alone. On-going classes may continue call for details. Pre-registration is required.


contact improvisation 2-week workshop
Contact improv” is movement rooted in dance, the martial arts, and studies of body development and awareness. Partners use weight, momentum, and inertia to move each other freely through space, finding support through skeletal structure rather than muscular effort. Spontaneous, creative, and playful, this class is open level.

belly

In this class you will learn all the foundations of this ethnic dance form and get some great exercise in a fun, positive environment. The instructors will cover the basics of hip, rib cage, and arm movements, as well as simple walking steps, combinations and choreography. Please wear a long skirt and bring scarves for even more fun! Beginner and intermediate levels are offered. Please call to register.

modern dance & movement therapy workshop

Explore the fullness of creative expression through modern dance improvisation with dancer Januar Ciel and applied Movement Re-patterning techniques with Maeve Hughes. Kinesiology, elements of Yoga, Tai Chi and Chi Gong will increase muscular and skeletal awareness, alignment, fluidity and strength as well as improve overall health.

west african dance
A fun, all-levels, all ages dance class to uplift you physically and mentally. Learn dances from Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and Mali. This high-energy class is a great workout and will leave you feeling vivacious and powerful!
