artist
and designer
Artist and designer, Jane Hilst, studied art at the Rhode
Island School of Design and while traveling throughout Europe
and Latin America.
Jane works in large scale oils and at present is a figurative
painter who has had a feature-artist show at the Artist Association
of Nantucket and a showing at the Thomas Moore Health and
Spirituality Conference.
In addition to facilitating collaborative art workshops "Inner
Connections" at thespace, Jane is a self-taught
designer who has built and renovated several houses on Nantucket
Island, where she moved in 1969 originally to become a fisherman.
She says, "Nantucket has taught me to have an aesthetic
eye as much as any formal schooling has. Man has been making
art long before the foundation of Universities as it is one
of his first responses after survival; some of the most breath-taking
art of the ages comes from the cave-dwellers. To let the joy
of our creative connection flow we need only to play and say
yes!" |
