Martial art instructor and artist, Louis Guarnaccia was eight when his grandmother gave him his first oil painting set.

The gift planted a seed for an art career that led him to create in foreign lands and to receive international recognition for his work. In 1982, he developed an interest in another art form involving the physical realm of body movement.

Louis began to study Tai Chi Chuan in 1979, and expanded his studies to Aikido in 1982. He is now working towards his 5th degree black belt. He has taught at the American Institute of Martial Arts in New Haven, CT, and is currently the Chief Instructor and founder of the Aikido Association of Nantucket. The home of their Dojo resides at thespace.

1979 - 81 Studied Yang Style Tai-Chi Quan under Reggie Jackson

1992 - 95 Returned to study Yang Style Tai-Chi Quan & Qi-Gong under Reggie

1993 Studied Swimming Dragon under Master T.K.Shih

1994 Studied Qi Healing under Master T.K.Shih

Japanese Studies: Aikido, Aiki-Jujitsu Aikido

1982 Started the study of Aikido under Sensei Liedke 7th Dan Black Belt, Chief Instructor and Founder of The American Institute of Martial Arts, New Haven, CT

1986 Promoted to the rank of 1st Dan Black Belt in Aikido

1991 Promoted to the rank of 2nd Dan Black Belt in Aikido

1994 Promoted to the rank of 3rd Dan Black Belt in Aikido and receives the first official teaching certificate issued at the Institute enabling Louis to teach Aikido and form his own Dojo.

1995 Louis moved to Nantucket and founded The Aikido Association of Nantucket

1997 Promoted to the rank of 4th Dan Black Belt in Aikido (master status)
To present Louis is actively teaching Aikido, Qi-Gong and Tai-Qi Quan principles to a continually growing number of students on Nantucket. Through his school he currently has promoted 5 students to the rank of Black Belt with several other students in training for this coveted rank.
