Sandy Walsh grew up in southeastern Massachusetts, where she studied and obtained a degree in textile technology. For nine years, she worked in the field of garment and textile quality; spear heading continuous improvement projects and team approach personnel management and facilitation for the Department of Defense, a work apparel corporation and a small design house.

She left the corporate world to slow down her life and explore alternative therapies and the arts - life long interests that had until that point remained on the back burner. Sandy studied yoga, body movement and massage more extensively, picked up her violin and started writing again. During this time, she assisted with managing a very talented Boston blues guitarist, Peter Parcek, and helped to produce his recording. Sandy also continued to keep in touch with the local music and dance culture.

While working at LOOKS, a very funky women's boutique in Cambridge, she met designer and architect Chip Webster. She traveled back to his home on Nantucket and together they opened thespace, inc. a culturally diverse studio for the creative and healing arts dedicated to promoting the well-being of the island community.

Sandy is a strong advocate of a holistic approach to developing and sustaining community. In addition to growing thespace and researching non-profit status Sandy is collaborating with other art and educational organizations on and off Nantucket. She has recently traveled throughout the country with Chip, facilitating groups and organizations with their own community based projects.
